I have made my business at Koala work for me. It's a lot of work, but so are all businesses. The team has at least made efforts to listen to the franchisees on certain fee adjustments, even if we had to fight hard to reach that point. They're not perfect, but there are ways to make this business work.

I've been with Koala from the early days and while I'm making it work from a business standpoint, it hasn't been without incredible challenges that come directly from the franchisor. First off, we pretty recently had an incredible battle about weekly royalty minimums and I think that the extent to which the franchisees had to band together to overcome that was a much more significant lift than it should have been. Yes we signed a franchise agreement that spoke to those weekly minimums. But a lot of us (I guess I should say most of us) had no ability to predict the challenges that were coming. And we were all quite shocked at just how much resistance there was I genuinely don't believe this franchise system is out to do good and it kind of hurts me to write it because I think the people inside the system - meaning the franchisees - are genuinely good. I just think we all have to fight way harder than we should have to fight to make this model work because the franchisor is a blocker to progress
